An Ibanez Signature Designed Around Gerald Veasley's Playing Style
The GVB36 is part of Ibanez's "Signature" models, developed to meet a very specific playing approach. Here, everything is designed to serve clarity, precision, and harmonic work: a tight string spacing (14 mm) and high-end electronics capable of finely sculpting the spectrum, from deep lows to detailed highs. The result: a modern, expressive bass that maintains clarity even on rich chords.
For Whom and Which Styles?
This bass is primarily aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists seeking a responsive 6-string designed for chord playing, precise fingerstyle, and fast lines. It is particularly comfortable in modern jazz, fusion, funk, gospel, and any situation where a bass capable of shifting from a round tone to a very defined attack is needed, with full control over the mids to position itself in the mix.
Sound
The combination of a quilted maple top and an alder body offers a very musical balance: alder provides solid lows and natural mids, while maple enhances attack and clarity. The Bartolini MK-1 deliver a clean and articulate sound, with a homogeneous output between neck and bridge pickups, ideal for maintaining definition on low notes as well as on the high C string.
The Aguilar OBP-3 preamp takes versatility further: 3-band EQ, lows centered at 40 Hz (up to 18 dB), highs at 6.5 kHz (up to 16 dB), and especially switchable mids (400 Hz or 800 Hz, up to 16 dB) via push/pull. This allows switching from a warm, full low-mid to a more cutting midrange to stand out in a band, while maintaining precise control thanks to volume and pickup balance.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To stay as close as possible to the original specifications, favor a 6-string long scale string set (scale length 34" / 864 mm) with gauges close to .032 to .125. A standard strap will be suitable for standing play, especially during rehearsals and on stage.
