The Ibanez Q "Quest" Series: A New Generation Headless
With the Q52PB, Ibanez did not just adapt an existing guitar to a headless format: the Q (Quest) series was developed as a standalone project, aiming to optimize comfort, performance, and tone. This approach is reflected in technical choices dedicated to headless guitars, such as the Q58 pickups, the Mono-Tune bridge, and an exclusive string locking mechanism, all designed to offer a more modern, direct, and reliable daily experience.
The Tone
The combination of a poplar top and nyatoh body emphasizes present mids and rich lows, with a warm and consistent sonic foundation. The Wizard C neck in torrefied maple/bubinga, paired with a torrefied maple fingerboard, provides balanced attack and generous sustain, while the jumbo stainless steel frets promote clear articulation and quick response under the fingers.
The Q58 pickups (H-H) were designed specifically for headless guitars: they deliver a very defined sound, solid bass without excess, and clear highs without harshness. Thanks to the dyna-MIX10 with Alter Switch, the tonal palette is greatly expanded: you can switch from a dense humbucker register to finer single-coil-like textures, with a Power Tap mode designed to remain credible and usable, including with digital and analog effects.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To get the most out of the Q52PB, you can use electric guitar string sets (standard strings) since the guitar does not require proprietary strings. A strap and an instrument cable (standard jack format) are also essentials for stage and rehearsal, with the carrying case already included.
