Iron Label: the RG built for metal, without compromise
Part of the Ibanez Iron Label series, the RGIXL7 carries the "Made-for-Metal" DNA: a dark aesthetic, maximum efficiency, and performance-oriented ergonomics. Based on the RG silhouette, it pushes the concept further with a 27" long scale that enhances stability in low tunings while retaining the fast and incisive spirit of the range.
Who is it for, and in which styles?
The RGIXL7 is aimed at intermediate to advanced guitarists who play modern metal, prog, djent, death, metalcore, or post-metal, and who seek a 7-string capable of handling dense distortion without becoming muddy. Its very thin neck favors fast playing (alternate picking, legato, high-position runs), while the coil tap also allows for airier textures suitable for intros, arpeggios, and clean passages.
The sound
The nyatoh body delivers a solid low register and balanced response, which pairs perfectly with the baritone scale: attacks remain firm and notes sustain well. The ebony fingerboard (tight grain) adds a precise feel under the fingers and a quick response, ideal for syncopated riffs and palm mutes. On the electronics side, the DiMarzio Fusion Edge-7 (passive) pickups are designed for clarity in low tunings: tight lows, clear mids, and present highs without excessive harshness. The coil tap broadens the palette by offering sharper and more open tones, useful for finer rhythms or more defined cleans. The Gibraltar Standard II-7 bridge, firmly anchored to the body, promotes vibration transfer for a direct and stable output.
Recommended compatible accessories
The guitar comes with D'Addario XL1107 strings (.010 to .059 gauges): a reliable base for the 27" / 686 mm scale and the indicated low tunings. A hex key is included for adjustments.
