An SRD Designed to Bridge Electric and Upright Playing
The SRD900 fits within the spirit of modern performance-oriented basses by adding an "acoustic/upright" dimension thanks to the AeroSilk Piezo system integrated into the bridge. The goal is clear: maintain the ergonomics of an electric bass while offering a more organic and airy response when desired, without sacrificing the power and definition of a magnetic pickup set.
For Which Bassists and Styles
This Ibanez targets intermediate to advanced bassists who want to cover a wide range of genres: pop, modern rock, fusion, neo-soul, electric jazz, worship, and any situation alternating between punchy attacks and more "woody" nuances. With its 24 frets, it remains very comfortable for melodic lines and playing in the upper register, while maintaining excellent control in the low end.
Sound Characteristics
The combination of a exotic maple top and okoumé body promotes a clear, fast, and articulate sound: maple adds brightness and attack, while okoumé helps keep a present low-midrange and good resonance. The Nordstrand Big Break pickups (soapbar format) deliver a dense and muscular texture with clarity that remains readable in a mix. Meanwhile, the AeroSilk piezo adds "air" and a more acoustic component, ideal for expressive finger attacks and subtler passages. The 2-band EQ on the pickups (bass/treble) and dedicated piezo control allow precise balancing between electric punch and "upright" feel.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
For transport, the MB300C (case) and IBB540-BK (gig bag) are recommended. To preserve the original feel and tone, prefer D'Addario ECB81 flatwound strings in .045/.065/.085/.105 gauge when replacing strings.

Questions frequently asked
Does the AeroSilk piezo on the Ibanez SRD900-CTL provide an upright bass-like sound?
The AeroSilk MR5 bridge features a piezo system that adds a more acoustic and airy component. Its level is adjusted separately via the active Piezo tone control, allowing blending with the two Nordstrand Big Break pickups.
What is the neck profile and string spacing?
The SRD4 five-piece maple/walnut neck measures 21.5 mm thick at the first fret and 23.5 mm at the twelfth. The nut is 38 mm wide, with a 34-inch (864 mm) scale length. The 19 mm spacing at the bridge facilitates precise fingerstyle playing and clear attack.
Is this bass suitable for electric jazz and neo-soul?
The HH pickup configuration with Nordstrand Big Break pickups and the Ibanez 2-band EQ provide a solid foundation, featuring bass and treble adjustments. The exotic maple top and okoumé body contribute to a clear response with a present low-midrange.
What strings are installed by default on this bass?
Factory setup is tuned to G-D-A-E using .045/.065/.085/.105 gauge steel strings. D'Addario ECB81 flatwound strings in the same gauge are recommended when replacing to maintain the specified feel and tone.
Which gig bag or case is recommended for the SRD900-CTL?
The IBB540-BK gig bag and MB300C case are the recommended options for this model.
