Ibanez Bass Workshop: a range designed to explore new territories
For over 40 years, Ibanez has evolved the electric bass by challenging traditional formats. The Bass Workshop series embodies this philosophy: offering instruments with unique specifications, designed to meet specific needs (feel, ergonomics, tonal palette, playing sensations). The SRD900F-BTL is one of these "laboratory" basses: a modern platform combining playing comfort, creative electronics, and organic character thanks to its semi-hollow construction.
Who is the SRD900F-BTL for?
This bass is aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists who want to expand their vocabulary, both live and in the studio. Its versatility makes it comfortable in jazz, neo-soul, pop, funk, contemporary music, and any context where a precise yet expressive bass is sought, capable of shifting from a modern tone to a more woody and detailed texture.
The sound
The semi-hollow construction adds extra air and depth, with a rounder attack and a breathing sensation in the midrange. The combination of exotic maple top / okoumé body promotes a balance between clarity, definition, and warmth. The Nordstrand Big Break pickups deliver a wide and powerful range, while the AeroSilk piezo adds fine harmonics and very natural articulation. The Ibanez 2-band EQ and active piezo tone control allow quick adjustment of brightness, low end, and presence, enabling a transition from a modern, tight sound to a more "woody" and nuanced output.
Recommended compatible accessories
To maintain the original feel and tone, you can stick with D'Addario ECB81 Flatwound strings (gauges .045/.065/.080/.100). For transport, the specs recommend an MRB500C case or an IBB540-BK gig bag. The active electronics require 1 9V battery (carry a spare battery for stage and session use).

Questions frequently asked
Is the Ibanez SRD900F-BTL a fretless bass?
This bass is fretless, with a bound panga panga fingerboard and luminescent side markers. The scale length is 34 inches (864 mm) and the nut width is 38 mm.
What sound does the AeroSilk piezo produce on this bass?
The AeroSilk piezo system integrated into the MR5 bridge adds fine harmonics and natural articulation. Its dedicated volume and active tone control allow this texture to be blended separately from the two Nordstrand Big Break pickups.
Is the SRD900F-BTL suitable for jazz and neo-soul?
The semi-hollow okoumé body construction combined with an exotic maple top promotes a round attack and airy midrange. The factory-installed D'Addario ECB81 Flatwound strings, .045/.065/.080/.100, contribute to a detailed tone well suited for jazz and neo-soul.
What battery is required for the active electronics?
The active electronics require a 9 V battery. The Ibanez 2-band EQ controls bass and treble frequencies, with an active tone dedicated to the piezo.
Is there a compatible gig bag or case available?
