A Signature That Reinvents the Electric Nylon-String in the Ibanez Universe

With the TOD20FMN, Ibanez and Tim Henson deliver a guitar that fully embraces the aesthetics and demands of contemporary playing: clear attack, clean extended chords, fast passages, and nylon musicality without the constraints of a traditional classical guitar. A deliberate nod to the brand's heritage, the "Tree of Death" inlay reinterprets the spirit of Ibanez's historic motifs with a darker, more contemporary identity, perfectly matching the project's image.

Who Is the TOD20FMN For? A Modern Nylon for Stage, Studio, and Advanced Techniques

This guitar is primarily aimed at intermediate to expert guitarists seeking a comfortable nylon feel combined with performance-oriented ergonomics. Its nyatoh neck with a C profile, set-in neck joint, and access to upper frets make it an ideal candidate for lead playing, sophisticated voicings, modern fingerstyle, ultra-precise arpeggios, and a wide range of styles from neo-instrumental to clean pop/rock, fusion, and cinematic textures.
The detail that makes all the difference for many musicians: the combination of a 46 mm nut width (narrower than a classical guitar) and a 400 mm radius promotes quick handling, more natural barre chords, and a more "electric" feel in the hand while maintaining the typical articulation of nylon strings.

A Warm, Precise, and Highly Usable Nylon Sound When Amplified

The tonal personality of the TOD20FMN arises from a balance between luthiery and electronics. The flamed maple top provides a more bright response, with a clear attack contour and excellent definition, while the sapele back and sides reinforce a warm midrange and roundness that avoids any harshness. The rosewood bridge helps maintain an organic feel, and the bone nut and bone saddle contribute to a clear transmission of vibrations, beneficial for sustain and precision.
The modified FR hollow body is reinforced by a fan bracing, a typical choice for classical guitars: this contributes to a natural "nylon" tone while keeping a controlled response. The absence of a soundhole on the top limits unwanted acoustic feedback, helping maintain a stable sound on stage. Additionally, the side sound port improves monitoring for the player: it enhances the "acoustic" projection nearby, making playing more inspiring even at low volume.
On the amplification side, the Fishman S-Core aims for a faithful and balanced reproduction of the nylon character, with a usable sound image in DI, on acoustic amps, or PA systems. The Ibanez AEQ210TF preamp adds essential efficiency in real situations: volume, bass and treble EQ, built-in tuner, and a phase switch to help tame certain resonances depending on the stage and system used.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

To stay as close as possible to the original balance, opt for a set of D'Addario XTC45 strings (the specified reference for this model), with gauges .028/.032/.040/.028W/.035W/.044W. Also plan for a 9V battery (x1) to power the preamp, as well as a 6.35 mm (1/4") jack cable for connection to your amplification system.
