Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
The ToneX Cab fits within the logic of the TONEX range: to provide on-stage amplification consistent with sounds from modelers, captures, and speaker simulations. Where a classic FRFR speaker might seem too "monitor-like" or clinical, IK Multimedia positioned this cabinet as a solution dedicated to guitarists, with a design focused on the "amp-in-the-room" sensation and ergonomics tailored for modern rigs (presets, IR, MIDI, XLR output to the front of house).
Who This Amp Is For
The IK Multimedia ToneX Cab targets guitarists playing with a modeler (pedal, multi-effects, or capture system) who want to regain cabinet-type sound dispersion without struggling with imprecise stage monitors. It suits both demanding beginners seeking a simple and scalable system, and stage musicians looking for power, consistency, and ease of adjustment from one gig to another.
Practically, it excels in home studio (controllable volume and faithful sound), rehearsal (level and punch), and live (XLR output to the console, quick EQ control). The covered styles are very broad: pop, funk, blues, rock, modern metal, ambient, worship, etc. Whenever your sound depends on amp and cabinet simulation, this cabinet becomes a reliable anchor point.

Questions frequently asked
Is the ToneX Cab FRFR suitable for a modeling pedalboard?
This model is designed for modelers, capture systems, and speaker simulations. Its 12-inch Celestion Custom speaker and high-frequency driver cover a response from 60 Hz to 20 kHz.
What power and sound volume does this active cabinet offer?
The amplification delivers 350 W RMS, with a peak power of 700 W and a maximum announced SPL level of 132 dB.
Can IRs be loaded into the ToneX Cab?
It is possible to import impulse responses via the built-in IR loader. Eight internal presets store the IR, three-band equalization, and AMP TONE setting. Transfer and preset management are done via USB.
What connectivity is available for stage use?
Connectivity includes a main input and an auxiliary input in combo XLR/6.35 mm jack formats. A balanced XLR output switchable between PRE or POST allows sending to a console or chaining cabinets. A GND Lift switch is provided to reduce hum, while MIDI In and Out ports ensure external control.
Does the AMP TONE control modify the cabinet's sound character?
The AMP TONE control affects the projection and perceived response in the mid and high frequencies to achieve a more cabinet-oriented sound. The programmable three-band EQ allows separate adjustment of bass, mid, and treble according to the room.
