Historical context and position within the range
The 21-inch Istanbul Agop Special Edition Jazz Ride draws on the great tradition of Turkish cymbal making. Istanbul Agop is renowned for its traditionally handcrafted cymbals, each one possessing its own unique sonic identity. This ride belongs to the Custom Special Edition series, a range designed for drummers who appreciate rich tones, a finely responsive feel and the lively character of a hand-worked cymbal.
Its hand hammering, combined with deep, widely spaced lathing, gives it a more textured personality than a highly uniform modern ride. It is a characterful instrument, intended for musicians seeking less brute power and more of an expressive palette capable of supporting their playing without overpowering it.
Who this ride cymbal is for
The Special Edition Jazz Ride is primarily aimed at intermediate to professional drummers who place great importance on nuance, touch and interaction with other musicians. Its responsive behaviour makes it an excellent partner for dynamic playing, where every variation in stroke needs to be heard with precision.
Naturally at home in acoustic jazz, from traditional swing to contemporary styles, it is also well suited to fusion, blues, soul, folk and intimate projects. Its broad range of nuances allows it to find its place in a trio, quartet or small ensemble, while remaining expressive enough to enrich more modern arrangements.
