iZotope Nectar 4 Advanced is a vocal processing plug-in designed to produce, clean, stabilize, and mix vocals quickly and musically. It is intended for both sung vocals (pop, rock, rap, electro, RnB) and spoken voice (podcast, voice-over, streaming, narration), with tools covering the entire chain: pitch correction, dynamic control, equalization, de-essing, saturation, and choir creation.

Whether you are looking for a lead vocal, a cleaner take without background noise, or a more produced aesthetic (harmonies, layers, color), Nectar 4 Advanced serves as a centralized vocal channel strip while remaining modular thanks to its components usable separately.

Main Features

Modular vocal editing oriented towards workflow

Nectar 4 Advanced groups 13 modules to sculpt your voice at every stage. You can load only the necessary processing or open a module as a component plug-in to keep your session clear and lightweight. This approach is ideal for standardizing your vocal chains, creating consistent presets across projects, and speeding up production from the first rough to the final mix.

ALM: consistent level without pumping effect

The Auto Level Module aims for homogeneous levels while maintaining a clean and natural sound. The goal is to limit volume variations (quieter verses, louder choruses, phrase endings dropping) without introducing unwanted artifacts. Nectar also includes ALM Tame Noise, capable of distinguishing sung and non-sung passages to equalize only relevant tonal components, resulting in a better-controlled voice in the mix.

Vocal Assistant and reference-based work

With Vocal Assistant, Nectar can suggest suitable settings based on analysis and intelligent assistance logic. Combined with iZotope Audiolens, it becomes possible to identify the vocal placement of a reference track and use it as a target to approach a credible vocal balance faster, while keeping control over final adjustments.

Backer and Voices: credible harmonies and vocal layers

The Voices module allows creation of vocal layers and complex harmonies from artificial backing vocals, with different profiles based on presets or via MIDI control to drive notes and movements. The Backer module generates backing vocals in eight styles and can also work with custom styles from target references to achieve choirs closer to your production's aesthetic.

Real-time cleaning and spectral balance

Breath Control reduces breath noises without degrading the recording quality, useful for maintaining intimate diction without drawing attention to inhalations. The Dynamic EQ features a Follow EQ mode that detects resonances and reduces them in real time, helpful for stabilizing a voice recorded in an imperfect room or that changes timbre across registers. The Auto Level mode can also adjust the incoming signal level before editing to feed your processing more consistently.

Inter-instance communication for clearer mixing

Nectar 4 Advanced offers cross-communication with other iZotope plug-in instances to identify and fix typical mixing issues: tonal balance, masking effects, and vocal placement relative to instruments. This logic encourages faster decisions and better coherence across the entire project.
