What iZotope Ozone 12 Advanced Is For

iZotope Ozone 12 Advanced is a mastering plug-in suite designed to finalize your productions with both a musical and technical approach: level optimization, spectral balance, dynamic control, stereo management, and adaptation to modern references. It is aimed at producers, mixers, and engineers who want to achieve consistent masters across different listening systems, ready for streaming, video, broadcast, or live performance.

Thanks to the main "Mothership" plug-in (all-in-one processing) and the modules also available as components, you can work in a mastering chain on the master bus, on a stem, or even for targeted correction within a mixing project, depending on your workflow in your DAW.

Main Features

A More Refined, Controllable Master Assistant

The Custom Master Assistant Flow helps you build a relevant chain based on genre targets, custom settings, and guided decisions on modules and volume. You can also create mastering chains based on presets inspired by current hits, a loaded reference audio file, or custom targets generated via iZotope Audiolens.

The Assistant View facilitates overall adjustment of intensity and target matching, while the Detail View provides access to all modules and parameters for full control at a "mastering studio" level.

Low-End and Dynamics Management: Precision and Musicality

The Bass Control module allows visualization, balancing, and shaping of low-frequency content in any listening environment, useful for making reliable low-end decisions. Going further, Low End Focus helps adjust contrast in the bass range to influence the sense of dynamics and impact.

For level and punch, the Maximizer IRC 5 aims for strong and transparent limiting with minimal saturation. The Impact module (4 frequency bands) refines microdynamics with options oriented toward "Punch" or "Glue" to enhance attack or cohesion without crushing the mix.

Intelligent Processing: Clarity, Harshness, Vocal Balance

The Clarity module adaptively optimizes the spectral energy of the mix to improve perception and intelligibility without adding harshness. To control aggressive areas, Spectral Shaper reduces harshness in selected frequency ranges, useful on shrill cymbals, overly acidic vocals, or abrasive synths.

Assistive Vocal Balance allows adjustment of vocal levels in the mix, a valuable aid to secure the center and clarity, especially on pop, rock, hip-hop productions, podcasts, or vocal music.

"Stems" Approach from a Stereo Mix

Ozone 12 Advanced includes features designed to work more precisely even from a stereo render. The Stem EQ module offers separate equalization for vocals, bass, drums, and instruments. Additionally, Stem Focus allows the use of effect modules on isolated stems for separate processing of vocals, drums, bass, or instruments, to correct a specific area without altering the entire master.

The Unlimiter module can restore dynamics in overly compressed audio using machine learning, useful for rescuing a premaster that is too "squashed" or to bring back movement before final limiting.

Translation Control and Broadcast Consistency

The Codec Preview function helps preview compressed formats during mastering to anticipate artifacts and loss of definition. The Tonal Balance Control 2 plug-in provides measurement and control of tonal balance based on professional mixes to aim for a more stable signature from track to track. The Audiolens application complements the suite by enabling creation of custom mastering targets from any audio source.

Finally, you get a wide range of multiband mastering processors (Imager, EQ, Dynamic EQ, Dynamics, Exciter) as well as "vintage" modules (Tape, EQ, Limiter, Compressor). The Exciter includes saturation modes Warm, Retro, Tape, Tube, Triode, and Dual Triode to add harmonic content with controlled dosing.
