Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The cajon has established itself as one of the essential instruments in modern acoustic ensembles, thanks to its versatility and ability to replace a drum kit in a compact format. The Alma Classé Lacquered is positioned as a model focused on precise and adjustable playing, featuring an externally accessible snare system and a design suited for both stage and studio use.

Target Audience for This Drum/Instrument

This cajon is aimed at demanding beginners as well as intermediate players seeking a reliable instrument that is easy to tune and enjoyable to play over time. It is particularly suitable for styles where dynamics are essential: acoustic pop, flamenco, Latin, world, funk unplugged, and voice-guitar accompaniment. Thanks to the external tuning, it is also well adapted for live contexts where quick snare response adjustments are necessary.

Features and Innovations

The highlight of the Alma Classé Lacquered is its D.T.S. Direct Tuning System : 4 parallel guitar strings positioned vertically, designed to provide a snare-like timbre without muffling the low end. Being tunable from the outside allows fine-tuning of sensitivity, reduction of unwanted vibrations, or conversely achieving a more pronounced "buzz" depending on playing style and venue. The floor decoupling and silicone spikes contribute to a more stable base while limiting certain unwanted noises caused by direct contact with the floor.

Sound Characteristics

The Russian birch top (3.5 mm) promotes a quick response and clear attack: hand strikes come through with precision, aiding in articulating ghost notes, rolls, and accents. Birch is appreciated for its clear and defined sound, with projection that remains intelligible even in a dense acoustic mix.

The 7-ply DM chassis (12 mm) provides rigidity and thus a more stable low end, with a "solid" feel under the hand. The result is a present low spectrum for palm hits in the center, and a more lively high spectrum on strikes near the edge. By adjusting the string tension, you can shift from a discreet, dry timbre to a brighter, more "snare-like" color, ideal for mimicking a backbeat.
