Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The cajon has established itself as an essential percussion instrument to replace an acoustic drum kit in acoustic setups while maintaining true playing dynamics. The Viva Black Edition fits within this "stage-ready" approach: a sober aesthetic, a design focused on durability, and a snare system designed for quick adjustment of the snare character without complicated disassembly.

Who This Cajon Is For

The Viva Black Edition is suitable both for beginners looking for an easy-to-handle cajon and for intermediate players who want an adjustable and reliable instrument for rehearsals and concerts. It is particularly well-suited for acoustic pop, flamenco, latin, unplugged reggae, folk, and live animation, offering a useful balance between bass (center) and slap (corners).

Features and Innovations

Its key asset is the D.T.S. (Direct Tuning System) : two guitar strings mounted in parallel and positioned vertically, designed to provide a precise snare response, close to a snare drum. Being tunable from the outside allows adjusting the snare sensitivity according to the context: tighter for a fine and defined slap, looser for a rounder and more discreet tone.

The construction emphasizes stability: 10 mm medium-density fiberboard (MDF) chassis with water-based glue, silicone spikes, and floor decoupling to better isolate the cajon and maintain a cleaner response, especially on resonant surfaces (wooden stages, platforms, hollow floors).

Sound

The striking surface made of 3 mm Russian birch plywood promotes a quick attack and good definition of ghost notes. Birch is appreciated for its clear and articulated sound: slaps stand out easily while retaining a readable bass when playing in the center.

The 10 mm MDF chassis provides a stable and consistent base, with homogeneous behavior from one instrument to another. Combined with the string system, this results in a versatile cajon: a full low end to lay down the tempo, and an adjustable "snare" timbre to shape the groove effortlessly, whether played with fingers or hands.
