A "modern-classic" fuzz: the spirit of the JHS 3 Series

With the 3 Series, JHS focuses on the essentials: intuitive pedals designed to play right away, without sacrificing the brand's manufacturing standards. The 3 SERIES FUZZ fits perfectly into this philosophy by offering a fuzz capable of covering several sound families, whereas some more specialized fuzzes impose a single character. Carefully assembled in Kansas City (Missouri) from quality components, it is equally comfortable as a serious first purchase or as a clever addition to an already well-stocked pedalboard.

For whom, which styles, and in what contexts?

The JHS 3 SERIES FUZZ is aimed at guitarists (and bassists depending on configuration) who want one single pedal to explore multiple registers: rock, garage, indie, gritty blues, stoner, alternative, and even some more "ambient" textures when placed before a delay or reverb.
It also suits live musicians very well: its controls are simple, clear, and above all, it responds to playing dynamics. In the studio, its major strength is its ability to offer colors beyond pure fuzz, with zones closer to distortion or even a thick overdrive, allowing multiple takes without changing pedals.

Controls and features: simple but incredibly effective

The pedal combines three potentiometers and one switch for quick results. The Fuzz control is designed to remain musical throughout its range: you can get anything from a grainy drive to a more massive saturation without falling into an "unusable" zone. The Bias acts as a true shaping tool: turning it up yields a snappier attack and a more present gated effect, useful for choppy riffs, "spitty" leads, or textures that slice through the sound.
Finally, the Fat switch adds a low-end boost. It's an excellent ally to thicken a single coil, add body to a bridge pickup, or enhance impact in low tunings. Regarding pedalboard integration, its 9V DC center-negative power supply facilitates compatibility with most power bricks.

The Sound

The 3 SERIES FUZZ offers a lively fuzz with a real sense of control under the fingers: it reacts to pick dynamics and especially to the guitar's volume, allowing you to switch from an almost crunch sound to a thicker fuzz in one gesture. Its character sits between "old school" warmth and a more modern definition: chords remain clear, sustain is long, and the Fat switch helps retain body when playing in a band.
If you're looking for a fuzz that can also serve as an alternative distortion (more organic, rougher) or a dirty drive akin to a boosted overdrive, this pedal was precisely designed to offer these less common colors in the fuzz category. Artists like Andy Shauf have been associated with this type of compact fuzz in studio uses, and the pedal is also appreciated in demos/performances for its palette and ease of fitting into a mix.
