A Cult Combination: The "BluesBreaker" Spirit + "Centaur"-Style Boost
For decades, stacking a clear and punchy "BluesBreaker"-style overdrive with a transparent boost/overdrive like the "Centaur" has been a staple recipe in blues and rock: it delivers definition, headroom, and that extra presence that makes the guitar stand out in the mix. The Nux Queen of Tone follows this exact logic by combining in one box circuits inspired by the Nux MorningStar pedal (the "Breaker" side) and Horseman pedal (the "Clone" side), while adding routing options and modes to go beyond simple stacking.
Who It's For and When the Queen of Tone Makes a Difference
The Queen of Tone is aimed at guitarists who want to craft a refined and dynamic overdrive sound, from "edge of breakup" to more sustained drive, without falling into compressed distortion. It excels in blues, classic rock, pop, indie, punchy funk, and all styles where you want to preserve the attack and personality of the guitar.
Live, it's a formidable solution to switch from light crunch to a denser solo tone simply by activating one section then the other. In the studio, its versatility helps quickly find the right spot: a bright and open overdrive for rhythm parts, then a more "hi-fi" boost to make leads sing. On a pedalboard, it can also serve as a "base tone" always on, with a second section dedicated to more intense passages.
Controls, Modes, and Routing: A Dual Overdrive Designed for Playing
Each side has its dedicated, simple, and effective controls. The Horseman section (Klon/Centaur type) is adjusted via Gain, Treble, and Output to set the amount of drive, brightness, and output level. The MorningStar section (BluesBreaker type) offers Drive, Tone, and Level to shape the grain, tonal balance, and volume. The unit is completed by a LED display and 2 footswitches to independently activate each overdrive.
To expand the palette, the pedal includes additional modes: the "Shine" mode on the MorningStar section adds more highs and clarity, ideal for waking up a dark guitar or maintaining definition with an already pushed amp. On the Horseman side, the "Silver" mode extends the gain range for a beefier boost and more pronounced saturation, without losing the transparent spirit of this type of circuit.
The strength of the Queen of Tone also comes from its internal routing: you choose whether the MorningStar section drives the Horseman (MS > HM) or vice versa (HM > MS). MS > HM often favors a boost in clarity and presence, while HM > MS can thicken the grain and give a more "amp-like" feel on the Breaker side. Finally, the choice between True Bypass or Buffer Bypass allows you to optimize your chain depending on cable length and number of pedals, and the IFS (Input FET Stage) switch adds a FET stage at the input to push the amp and enrich the harmonic content. An external footswitch input is also provided for remote control.
Sound
The Queen of Tone aims for an open, lively, and responsive overdrive. The MorningStar section delivers a warm vintage drive, with transparency that respects the guitar and dynamics that respond finely to volume and pick attack. The "Shine" mode enhances brightness and definition, perfect for chords that remain clear and sparkling arpeggios.
The Horseman section positions itself as a natural and transparent overdrive/boost: it adds gain and presence without "squashing" the playing, while allowing you to sculpt the treble via the Treble control. Stacking both sides yields a wider spectrum, more singing sustain, and a very pleasant headroom feel, particularly effective for solos. When activated, the IFS reinforces the impression of "pushing" the preamp: the sound becomes richer, more harmonic, with an attack that remains precise.

Questions frequently asked
What power supply is required for the Nux Queen Of Tone?
The required power supply is a 9 V DC source with a negative center, not included. The specified current draw is 52 mA, with a required current of less than 100 mA.
Can the order of the two overdrives be changed?
The internal routing allows selection between MorningStar to Horseman (MS > HM) and Horseman to MorningStar (HM > MS). The first order favors clarity and presence. The second thickens the tone of the MorningStar section.
What sounds do the MorningStar and Horseman sections offer?
Both sections combine a MorningStar of the BluesBreaker type, with a warm vintage tone, and a Horseman of the Klon type, designed as a transparent overdrive/boost. The Shine mode adds treble on the MorningStar, while the Silver mode extends the gain range of the Horseman.
Does the pedal accept an external footswitch?
A footswitch input is provided to allow remote control.
What are the dimensions and weight of this dual overdrive?
The unit measures 105 x 115 x 58 mm and weighs 440 g. Two footswitches allow independent activation of the two effects.
