Essential Information About the Kala Makala Indonesian Acacia Baritone Ukulele

  • Baritone format: longer string length, more comfort for "guitar-like" chords, and a fuller sound presence.

  • Indonesian Acacia (top, back, and sides): a warm signature, with prominent mids and a nice roundness.

  • New Makala look: refined aesthetics with a light acacia strip on the top, for a sober and elegant style.

  • Aquila B-Blacks strings: pleasant feel and generous sustain for notes that naturally "hold."

Makala Indonesian Acacia: a new style for a series designed for accessibility

The Makala series has established itself as a reliable entry point into the Kala universe: a simple philosophy, offering an accessible instrument without sacrificing the essentials (intonation, comfort, musicality). This Indonesian Acacia version retains this DNA while bringing a stronger visual identity thanks to the acacia used on the entire body and its open-pore satin finish, which allows the wood to breathe and enhances the instrument's "organic" character.

For whom, and for which styles?

This baritone ukulele is aimed both at beginners who want to start on a larger format (stable grip, fuller sound) and intermediate players looking for a fun instrument to play often, anywhere. The baritone is particularly comfortable for accompanying vocals, laying down rhythms with a pick or fingers, and exploring guitar-like tones in styles such as pop, folk, americana, light jazz, or "lounge" accompaniment. Thanks to its natural warmth, it is also very suitable for softer, nuanced playing in simple fingerstyle.

The sound

The Indonesian acacia used for the top, back, and sides provides a balanced response, with an expressive midrange that helps the instrument remain clear in a mix (vocals, percussion, second instrument). The sound is rather warm, with a pleasant woody character and an attack precise enough for rhythms. The open-pore satin finish contributes to a more direct vibration feel under the hands, and the Aquila B-Blacks enhance the sensation of sustain and continuity between notes, highlighting arpeggios and held chords.

Recommended compatible accessories

To get the most out of your baritone ukulele daily, you can pair it with a chromatic tuner (clip-on or pedal), a universal stand for ukulele/guitar, and a set of replacement strings in baritone gauge (same reference as the original if you want to keep the feel and response). These accessories are reliable choices for comfort, tuning stability, and regular maintenance.
