An iconic entry-level series, revisited with an "acacia" style

With the Makala Indonesian Acacia collection, Kala retains the Makala DNA: offering an accessible instrument that remains enjoyable to play and musical. This version stands out by using Indonesian acacia throughout the body, as well as understated and elegant aesthetic details, including a lighter acacia wood strip on the top that provides a true visual identity. The goal is clear: to offer a simple, reliable, and inspiring ukulele with a look that breaks away from standard "entry-level" designs.

For whom, and for which styles?

This soprano ukulele is primarily aimed at beginners and intermediate players who want an easy-to-handle, lightweight, and motivating instrument for daily use. The soprano format is perfect for working on rhythms (strumming), vocal accompaniment, and first arpeggios, with minimal bulk.

Regarding repertoire, it is particularly comfortable in styles where the ukulele needs to remain lively and present: acoustic pop, folk, chanson, light reggae, or traditional "island" playing. The "Pineapple" format adds an interesting personality for those who want a soprano that doesn't sound too "thin."

The sound

The Indonesian acacia (top, back, and sides) provides a generally warm signature, with a natural emphasis on the midrange: chords stand out easily, and rhythmic playing remains clear without becoming harsh. This midrange dominance also helps to carry the melody well when alternating chords and single notes.

The Pineapple format (a rounder body without cutaways) is sought after by many ukulele players for its sense of resonance and often denser response than a classic-shaped soprano. The result: an expressive instrument for accompaniment, with balanced projection, very pleasant for living room playing, travel, or rehearsals.

The Aquila B-Blacks strings, fitted as standard, strongly contribute to the feel: clear attack, stable intonation, and flattering sustain, which helps both beginners (notes that "hold") and more experienced players (more singing phrasing). Finally, the rosewood fingerboard provides a comfortable surface under the fingers, appreciated for chord changes and intonation work.

Recommended compatible accessories

To stay as close as possible to the instrument and its setup, a soprano ukulele string set (ideally Aquila B-Blacks to maintain the same feel and response) is a safe choice for routine maintenance. A chromatic clip-on tuner is perfectly suited to the ukulele and facilitates daily tuning, both at home and on the go.
