Kala Solid Curly Trembesi Metropolitan, Soprano, With Bag

Metropolitan: an all-solid series designed to grow with you

The Kala Metropolitan series is aimed at musicians who want to keep their instrument as they progress. From first accompaniments to more personal compositions, it offers ukuleles made entirely from solid wood and handcrafted in Java. This soprano model showcases trembesi, a wood native to the tropical regions of Java, valued as much for its appearance as for its acoustic qualities.

Within this range, the All Solid Trembesi stands out with its natural grain and glossy finishing, which highlights the wood's figuring. Its character is not limited to aesthetics, however: the solid construction allows you to work on nuances and enjoy an expressive response. It is an instrument designed to support the learning process without quickly becoming a limitation as your playing grows more confident.

A soprano for learning, composing and refining your touch

This Kala soprano ukulele is suitable for motivated beginners as well as intermediate or advanced musicians looking for a compact instrument with a well-defined voice. The soprano size encourages spontaneous playing and lively rhythmic accompaniment. Players accustomed to larger sizes will find a different left-hand positioning feel here, characteristic of this compact format.

It lends itself to pop songs, folk accompaniment, Hawaiian-inspired rhythms and intimate compositions. Its clarity will also appeal to fingerstyle players, helping bring out a melody within an arpeggio. For soloists and singer-songwriters, its presence in the midrange provides an interesting foundation for creating clear, well-defined arrangements.

Its appeal lies in the room it leaves for your touch to develop. A light attack allows you to emphasize delicacy, while a more forceful playing style makes greater use of its projection. This sensitivity to dynamics encourages you to work on accents, chord consistency and the balance between notes, rather than relying solely on volume.

Solid trembesi: clarity, prominent mids and sustain

The soundboard top, back and sides are made from solid trembesi. This relatively dense wood is sought after for its balance of visual appeal, projection and note sustain. On this model, the stated tonal character emphasizes excellent clarity and a pronounced midrange presence: qualities that help preserve the shape of a chord and add definition to melodic phrases.

The top contributes directly to setting the instrument in motion, while the back and sides contribute to its overall acoustic response. Here, using the same solid wood for all three elements gives the body a coherent identity. The sustain allows notes to ring out, an advantage in arpeggios and passages where you want the harmony to breathe.

The mahogany neck and ebony key complete this instrument's construction. Graph Tech NuBone nuts and saddle provide the strings' support points at the headstock and bridge. The result remains an acoustic ukulele whose expressiveness depends on touch, the resonance of the body and the way each note is articulated.
