An overdrive designed as a "Swiss Army knife" of gain
The Logan doesn't just try to add "one more overdrive" to your pedalboard: it aims to push the limits of the format by combining, in a single enclosure, an expressive gain section and an equalizer capable of radically transforming your signal curve. The idea is clear: preserve the natural character and playing feel of your instrument, while opening a vast playground for textures, dynamics, and mix presence.
Its gain structure is balanced to remain open and lively, with a particularly pronounced pick (or finger) control feel. At low settings, it stays smooth and harmonic, ideal for "lifting" an amp, thickening a clean tone, or achieving amp-like breakup. Increasing the gain thickens the grain and adds depth, reaching more muscular territories where the attack becomes more biting and sustain more present.
For which guitarists (and contexts)?
The Logan is aimed at musicians who want a drive pedal capable of handling all situations: rehearsal, studio, stage, or minimalist setups with a "preamp" approach. Its very responsive behavior makes it an excellent choice for guitarists who play with instrument volume, right-hand nuances, or stack multiple gain stages.
Stylistically, it feels at home from blues to rock, indie to heavier sounds, and becomes particularly interesting when you need to carve out a precise place in the mix: tame overwhelming bass, add presence, emphasize a midrange area to stand out in a dense band, or conversely scoop to widen a rhythm sound. Thanks to its filtering and sweep capabilities, it can also flirt with more experimental, ambient, or electronic textures.
Controls, modes, and options: an equalizer that changes everything
The heart of the Logan is the combination of a gain stage and a 3-band active EQ. The Bass and Treble controls can boost or cut your signal by about 15 dB: perfect for thickening single coils, adding brightness to humbuckers, or cleaning up an overly generous low end depending on the amp and cabinet used.
The parametric Mid-EQ goes even further: you choose the mid frequency to work on (from 100 Hz to 2.5 kHz), then cut or boost it up to 12 dB. And this is not just a "bonus": a dedicated footswitch allows you to activate or deactivate this Mid-EQ on the fly, while a selector lets you place this section before (PRE) or after (POST) the main gain stage. In POST, you get a powerful lever to stand out in solos or refine the final balance. In PRE, you push a chosen frequency zone harder, which changes the saturation texture and can give the sensation of a second channel.
The Logan also features an expression pedal input to control the Mid-EQ frequency: ideal for wah-type effects, quick "quack" sounds, or slow, enveloping filter sweeps. Finally, to go beyond external controls, the pedal offers internal adjustments: a trim pot accessible to adjust the Mid-EQ bandwidth (Q) (wide and smooth, or narrow and very resonant), as well as a second trim pot allowing you to blend a clean signal with the saturated signal, a particularly useful option to preserve attack, definition, or explore uses beyond guitar.
Sound
To the ear, the Logan stands out with an open and very dynamic drive: it responds to nuances, respects the instrument's character, and remains musical even when the EQ becomes more extreme. Its "smooth and harmonically rich" register translates into an elegant grain at low gain, then a rougher and more incisive texture when seeking bite and density.
Its other strength is how it can shift from a classic overdrive to a sound-shaping tool. By working on the parametric mids (and their PRE/POST position), you don't just change the color: you change how the saturation builds, the sound's place in the mix, and even the feel under the fingers. Add to that a wide margin of adjustment (up to 25 dB) and you get a pedal capable of fulfilling both an "always-on" function and an expressive preamp role, with a frankly addictive range of settings.

Questions frequently asked
Does the Kma Audio Machines Logan work with a standard 9 V power supply?
The required power supply is 9 V DC, with a 2.1 mm center-negative connector. The current consumption is about 30 mA.
What frequency range does the parametric mid EQ cover?
The mid frequency is adjustable from 100 Hz to 2.5 kHz. The level of this band can be boosted or cut by up to 12 dB.
Can an expression pedal be used with this overdrive?
An expression pedal can control the Mid EQ frequency. This control allows for wah-type filter sweeps or more gradual resonance effects.
What is the purpose of the PRE / POST selector on the Mid EQ?
In PRE position, the mid EQ acts before the gain stage and alters the saturation texture. In POST position, it works after the gain to adjust the final balance or emphasize a part. A dedicated footswitch allows this section to be turned on or off.
What boost and EQ adjustment levels does the Logan offer?
The available range reaches up to 25 dB. The Bass and Treble controls provide about ±15 dB, while the parametric mids offer up to ±12 dB.
