A "USA 55-94" Spirit in a Bass Designed for the Stage
The 55-02 carries the sonic and ergonomic DNA that made the 55-94 famous: same LH3 components (hand-wound pickups in Chicago) and a very musical active preamp. The result: immediate punch, great fine-tuning capability, and a bass that sits easily in a mix, from the studio to the biggest stages.
Who Is This 5-String For and What Styles?
Ideal for intermediate to advanced bassists seeking a reliable, expressive, and versatile 5-string. Its long scale and active electronics make it an excellent option for styles demanding precision and solid foundation: funk, rock, pop, gospel, modern metal, or live playing contexts where the bass must remain clear and punchy.
The Sound
The combination of a ash body and a quilted maple top delivers a crisp attack, beautiful clarity, and dynamic response, ideal for fingerstyle and pick playing alike. The MM-J configuration offers a wide spectrum, from dense and powerful humbucker tones to more precise and articulate sounds thanks to the J-style pickup. The Lakland LH3 preamp adds headroom and an active EQ (bass, midrange, treble) to quickly carve your place in the mix, plus internal switches to adjust the mid boost/cut frequency.
