The 55-OS carries the DNA of Lakland 5-string basses, renowned for their clear response in the low end, while adopting a slightly revised "Offset" body. This approach combines a familiar feel, excellent stability both standing and sitting, and a more contemporary aesthetic, ideal for bassists who want an instrument as effective on stage as in the studio.

Thanks to its very complete active electronics and long scale length, the Lakland 55-OS is particularly aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists seeking a 5-string capable of covering many registers without changing instruments. It excels in funk (snappy slap), pop, and R&B (clean and controlled lows), but is equally comfortable in rock and more aggressive pick-driven music thanks to its punchy attack and excellent note sustain.

Sound

The pair of Bartolini MK-1 soapbar pickups (humbucking) delivers a sound that is both dense and articulate, with an excellent balance between warmth and precision. The ash body provides a fast attack and great dynamics, while the spalted maple top enhances definition and presence, particularly useful on a 5-string. The maple neck contributes to this sensation of clarity and responsiveness under the fingers.

The Bartolini HR-5.4 AP preamp puts versatility first: boost/cut for bass, mids, and treble, plus a 3-position selector allowing you to shift the midrange focus from a modern, percussive tone to a warmer, "fingerstyle" register. The blend (pan) control facilitates subtle mixes between the two pickups, and the push/pull volume knob bypasses the tone circuit for a more direct response.
