Historical context and positioning in the range

The Lionheart series condenses Laney's DNA around a clear goal: achieving the warmth, responsiveness, and expressive character of a pushed tube amp without having to play at unreasonable volumes. Launched as an anniversary line in Laney's history, the Lionheart family has established itself as a British boutique proposition: simple and musical circuits, careful craftsmanship, and priority given to "touch response" rather than gain overkill.

In this logic, the L5T-112 is the emblematic "low power" model: a compact and premium combo designed to recapture the feel of a working Class A, whether for recording, pick or fingerstyle playing, or as an ideal base for a pedalboard.

Who this amp is for

The Laney Lionheart L5T-112 targets guitarists who want a true tube tone usable daily: from intermediate players moving from a modeling amp to their first Class A, to pros seeking an inspiring and ultra-responsive studio combo. Its 5W power and 1x12 speaker make it an excellent choice for recording, home playing (with a real amp feel), rehearsals, and small gigs (often miked).

Stylistically, it excels wherever nuance is sought: blues, classic rock, pop, indie, funk, jazz-rock... and broadly anything that benefits from a detailed clean and a drive that "blooms" with attack. If you play fingerstyle or like to control saturation via guitar volume, this is typically the kind of amp that will give you the feeling of "driving" the sound.

Features and innovations

The L5T-112 relies on an all-tube preamp and a single-ended Class A power section for an organic response, with 2 channels (Clean and Drive) designed to switch from an articulated clean to a natural overdrive without losing your guitar's identity. It includes a built-in reverb to widen the sound without adding a pedal, as well as a switchable effects loop convenient for placing delays and modulations at the right spot in the chain.

The connectivity and ergonomics are clearly "musician-oriented": Hi and Lo inputs (to adapt input level according to your pickups and dynamics), speaker outputs for connecting an external cabinet if needed, and a foldable tilt mechanism that changes the game when playing close to the amp (you recover definition and highs in your ears without excessively raising the volume).

The sound

This is a 100% tube low-power amp, and you can hear it immediately: the Lionheart has a fast attack, a very musical natural compression, and a "bounce" feel typical of Class A circuits. The clean is warm yet precise, with a nice bright side when you want it to cut through the mix, and enough harmonic richness so each note stays alive even at moderate volume.

In crunch/drive, saturation comes progressively: it starts with a light grain, then thickens while maintaining definition. The 1x12 combo based on a Celestion G12H Heritage delivers punch in the lows and present low-mids, perfect for 60s/70s rock rhythms and singing leads. It's also an excellent pedal platform : the clean takes overdrives, fuzzes, and boosts very well while preserving the guitar's character.

To place the tones, guitarists like Tom Quayle and Jack Thammarat have been associated with this model, appreciating its response and expressiveness across styles ranging from rock to more fusion and modern playing.
