A Large-Diaphragm FET Designed for Color and Reliability
The LA-220 follows the tradition of great FET microphones while adopting Lauten Audio's modern approach: a custom-developed capsule and hand-soldered circuit path for a consistent sonic signature. The goal is clear: to offer the smooth compression and musical coloration associated with classic chains without relying on external processors.Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?
This cardioid microphone is aimed at singers, creators, and engineers who want to shape the sound right at the source. Ideal for lead vocals, doubles, acoustic instruments, light overheads, or demanding podcasts, it effectively isolates the environment while maintaining a pleasant presence in the mix.Features Designed to Shape the Sound at Capture
The LA-220's "two-color" voicing is based on two integrated musical filters. The 120 Hz high-pass filter cleans up rumble and proximity effect, while the 12 kHz low-pass filter softens sibilance and adds a "vintage" smoothness. Used together or separately, they allow you to switch instantly from modern clarity to a rounder warmth. At the heart of the microphone, the large 32 mm capsule combined with a transformer-balanced FET circuit delivers controlled bass, clear mids, and silky highs. With an extended dynamic range and low self-noise, the LA-220 excels on intimate takes as well as louder sources, while remaining easy to integrate with any preamp.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Lauten Audio LA-220 V2 suitable for recording a sung vocal?
Its cardioid polar pattern effectively isolates the environment and is suitable for lead vocals as well as doubles. The 32 mm large diaphragm capsule and FET circuitry with transformer aim for clear midrange and smooth highs.
How do the microphone's filters work?
Two built-in filters are available: a high-pass filter at 120 Hz and a low-pass filter at 12 kHz. The high-pass reduces rumble and proximity effect. The low-pass softens sibilance and provides a smoother response.
Does this microphone require phantom power?
A 48 V phantom power supply is required for operation.
What type of connectivity is used?
The output is via XLR, with an impedance below 200 ohms. The sensitivity is rated at 16 mV/Pa, or -40 dB at 1 kHz.
Can it record loud sound sources?
The maximum sound pressure level reaches 130 dB at 0.5% THD at 1 kHz. Its dynamic range is specified at a minimum of 120 dB, and its self-noise remains below 15 dB-A.
