A New Standard for Snare Drum Recording

While most snare drums are still captured with dynamic microphones, the Snare Mic takes an ambitious approach: a FET condenser specifically optimized to handle extreme sound levels while revealing the subtlety of harmonics. It combines the sharp attack of close miking with a richer reproduction of body and fundamentals.

Who Is It For and What Are Its Uses?

The Snare Mic is aimed at live sound engineers, professional studios, and home studio users who want a modern, punchy, and controllable snare drum sound. Its cardioid directivity and strong off-axis rejection ensure clean capture on tight kits, while its low self-noise and calibrated sensitivity facilitate integration into any mix.

Features Tailored for the Snare Drum

Impact and Definition

The large 32 mm capsule and FET electronics provide a fast transient response, preserving the attack of rimshots as well as the warmth of the center of the drumhead. The internal analog conversion optimizes the signal-to-noise ratio for detailed reproduction without harshness.

Immediate Spectrum Control

Two onboard switchable filters allow fine-tuning at the source: high-pass to clean unwanted low frequencies and low-pass to tame high harmonics or hi-hat spill, without immediately resorting to EQ on the console.

Designed for Extreme Levels

With SPL handling above 135 dB and a minimum dynamic range of 135 dB, the microphone stays composed on the most aggressive hits while remaining musical and nuanced on ghost notes.
