Summary of This Method
Bassist born in Aleppo in 1931 and settled in Paris in 1955, François Rabbath has marked the history of the double bass by navigating between the popular scene (alongside great figures like Barbara or Aznavour) and the demands of the classical repertoire. Continuing from the previous volumes, Nouvelle technique de la contrebasse pursues a clear objective: to free the student from the constraints of overly rigid traditional teaching, to build an effective, organic, and immediately musical technique.
This fifth book "closes" the educational journey with a particularly stimulating proposal: a set of pieces designed to provide genuine playing pleasure for the developing bassist. The musician who has overcome the technical challenges addressed in the first four volumes finds here a concrete expressive ground, where work on sound, phrasing, articulation, and projection becomes central.
The collection includes true concert pages with deliberate charm, such as the nostalgic Cri de Venise for double bass and piano, or the Third Concerto, carried by enveloping lyricism. The set is completed by shorter pieces, such as Souviens-tu des douze peupliers, as well as the essential Mama Bahija, written for double bass, drums, and organ. An excellent resource to enrich one's repertoire, work on musical endurance, and assert one's interpretive identity, both in lessons and on stage.
