Légère Classic: A Reed Born from Engineering and Research

Developed by Légère at the crossroads of music and composite materials, the Classic range continues an approach initiated in 1998: to offer a synthetic alternative capable of approximating the feel and acoustics of a traditional reed, while providing consistent performance over time. The chosen material, a non-toxic polypropylene, is processed using a method aimed at adjusting stiffness and density to closely meet the demands of classical playing.

This Légère Classic targets classically oriented tenor saxophonists (from intermediate to advanced levels) seeking a reliable reed without variations caused by humidity. Its balance also makes it suitable for orchestra, wind band, saxophone ensemble, or any situation where sound homogeneity and clarity are paramount.

Sound and Design

Thanks to a thicker tip, the reed promotes a darker and purer sound, with few harmonics. The response remains consistent over time, with no soaking phase or sensation of the reed "moving" during rehearsal. Polypropylene does not absorb water, which helps maintain a stable and predictable response even after several months of use.
