A Modern Approach to the Volume Pedal: From Potentiometer to VCA

Most traditional volume pedals rely on a potentiometer, a mechanical part subject to wear (crackling, irregular curves, maintenance). Lehle adopts a different philosophy: the pedal moves only a magnet, measured by a precisely calibrated Hall sensor, which then controls a VCA (voltage-controlled amplifier). The result: a very smooth control feel, reliability designed for the stage, and a level of precision difficult to achieve with classic mechanical or optical solutions.

The core concept is the combination of Hall sensor (magnetic distance measurement) + Blackmer VCA : volume variation depends on a control voltage, not mechanical friction. The volume range goes from -92 dB to 0 dB (from near mute to unity gain), and a control allows adding up to +10 dB of boost. The power supply is rectified/filtered/stabilized then doubled internally to 18V, increasing headroom and contributing to the "hi-fi" feel.

For comfort, the pedal is designed to be very quiet and smooth thanks to low-friction bearings, and a screw allows precise adjustment of the pedal's resistance (brake): handy for tailoring the feel to your playing style (light for swells, firmer for precise control).

Sound Character

The Lehle Mono Volume aims for transparent reproduction: no loss of highs when lowering the volume, no muffling sensation, and stable dynamics throughout the sweep. The signal retains its definition, which is especially appreciated with long delays/reverbs, highly nuanced clean tones, or saturations where you want to control the drive level with your foot without changing the guitar's character.
