This third string quartet by Régis Campo concludes a trilogy by embracing a singular artistic direction: whereas the first quartet, Les Heures maléfiques, was constructed as a large flow in a "crossfade" style and played on the superposition of tempi, and the second allowed itself a nod to Mozart's The Magic Flutein a more playful dramaturgy, this new work opts for withdrawal, concentration, and listening to the breath.
Here, the writing becomes more introspective. The composer temporarily abandons technical exuberance to make way for a discourse that breathes, takes time to unfold, and refocuses on the essential: a single voice, carried by the material of the string quartet. This approach gives the piece a very expressive contemporary color, where tension does not come from constant virtuosity but from an inner trajectory, a sensation of threshold and completion.
