Summary of This Method

Designed for music theory students in conservatories and music schools (mid 2nd cycle level), this method offers a comprehensive rhythm learning experience that is both demanding and deeply musical. The goal is to establish a progressive knowledge of rhythmic formulas while conveying their aesthetics and internal logic, so that the student can understand, hear, and perform them accurately.

The progression is based on a strong idea: memorization is a lever for rapid and lasting acquisition. Even before reading, the student is invited to internalize rhythms through the body and listening, then to consolidate these skills through guided activities (structured rhythmic games, work around formulas, writing, and reading). This holistic approach, inspired by the thinking of Maurice Martenot, emphasizes quality of perception and the construction of clear musical thought.

Each lesson combines specific exercises and musical texts, with a carefully chosen repertoire for its variety. The examples cover a wide range of styles, from the Middle Ages to contemporary music, and involve all instrument families, including voice. The content is presented in the four usual clefs (Treble, Bass 4, C3, C4), which enhances versatility in reading and musical culture.

A central point of the method lies in personal realization : directly linked to the studied formulas and repertoire, the student develops their appropriation of rhythmic material, memory, musical imagination, and relationship to notation. Both individually and collectively, this work fosters expression, rhythmic and melodic inventiveness, and transforms rhythm study into a lively, formative, and motivating practice.
