Summary of This Method

Designed to give students a global vision of music, this Music Theory method builds each lesson around a sung reading taken from the repertoire. The goal is to acquire all the expected skills in music theory by systematically linking the musical gesture (singing, reading, inner playing) to understanding.

Throughout the pages, the student works on note reading and rhythmic reading, as well as melodic and rhythmic memorization, improvisation, recognition, dictations, error detection, practical theory, and listening. The CDs then become an essential support to develop aural skills, verify intonation, refine the perception of intervals and rhythms, and appropriate the musical texts present in the collection.

The content is based on a wide panorama of works and styles, ideal for anchoring concepts in a living musical culture: Beethoven (Adagio and Allegro moto e vivace from Symphony No. 1), Berlioz (La Damnation de Faust, Danse des Sylphes), Brahms (Deutsche Volkslieder No. 1), Couperin (Les petits âges, L'Enfantine), Dvo?ák (Slavonic Dances Op. 46 No. 4), Granados (El tra la la y al punteado), Handel (Royal Fireworks Music, La paix), Milhaud (La chanson du savetier et de la pie), Mozart (Romance and Andante from Eine kleine Nachtmusik KV 525), Negro Spiritual (Nobody knows), Rameau (Pièces de clavecin, Gigue en rondeau No. 1), Saint-Saëns (The Carnival of the Animals, The Elephant), Satie (Chez le docteur), Schubert (Der Jägerlied; Wonne der Wehmut D260), and Vivaldi (The Four Seasons: Winter Largo, Spring Allegro 1 and 3, Autumn Allegro).
