Summary of This Score

Designed to provide students with a contemporary repertoire suited to their level, this score is part of an ambitious pedagogical approach: enabling young violinists to approach today's musical language without artificial simplifications, while respecting the necessary progression from 1st to 3rd cycle. Listening and practice complement each other thanks to the included CD, ideal for developing autonomy, understanding style, and stabilizing sonic references.

The preface by Pierre Boulez places the study of contemporary music in a very concrete perspective: intonation conceived through interval relationships, rhythms and durations going beyond regular meter, and expanded exploration of timbre. The goal is clear: to make these challenges accessible through familiarity and pragmatic work, in order to open the student to innovations in instrumental language and current interpretation, including in ensemble playing.

The content brings together varied pieces, from solo violin to two-violin ensembles, up to violin with piano, offering a rich working ground for violin class and chamber music: Alain Bonnet "Mélo-Mélo(s)" (solo violin), Philippe Schoeller "Course des lutins", "Dans la forêt, la nuit", "La Sauterelle" (solo violin), Kaija Saariaho "Danse des flocons I & II" (2 violins), Gilbert Amy "Petit thème varié" (1 or 2 violins), Jean-Marc Singier "Tirés, Pincés,... pêle-mêle!" (2 violins), Isabelle Fraisse "Les Étoiles de Rimbaud I" (2 violins), Édith Canat de Chizy "Libertysurf" (violin/piano), and Gaël Richard "Dizz'n Jazz" (violin/piano).
