Summary of This Score

Designed for solo harp and dedicated to Constance Luzzati, this work by Edith Lejet arises from a fascination with the sonic possibilities of the instrument and the performer's playing. The composer explores a sound material centered on resonance: sounds extend, colorize, and build a rich musical space, reminiscent of landscapes of light and depth. The idea of painting, air, and perspective runs through the piece, as if the harp becomes a source of color.

The title "Of Light and Blazing Skies" is anchored in a fragment from Les Fleurs du Mal, providing a concrete reference for the listener's imagination. Against a shimmering, moving, and undulating background, recurring gestures appear, intermittently return, and intersect throughout the discourse. These motifs progressively transform, generating increasing agitation that leads to a final intensification evoking blazing. Praised for its quality of writing and musical interest, the piece was premiered in January 2011 at the Auditorium of the Strasbourg Museum by Constance Luzzati.
