Summary of This Method

Designed to make the study of the alto saxophone more appealing and effective, this second book supports the student in a structured progression while respecting differences in pace and abilities. The stated goal is twofold: to develop an essential technical foundation without ever sacrificing musicality, and to train not only a saxophonist but a true musician.

The content is based on a series of short texts, carefully graded and enriched with relevant annotations. It includes excerpts inspired by folklore, themes adapted from the repertoire of past Masters with discernment, as well as original compositions written for the occasion. This diversity stimulates listening, regular practice, and the joy of playing, while avoiding the dryness often associated with purely technical books.

The method emphasizes essential points for the saxophonist: phrasing and accentuation (to give shape and expression to the musical discourse), as well as articulation and breathing (to stabilize tone production and line management). "Technical formulas" are proposed to help the student quickly overcome the initial difficulties specific to the instrument, including in sight-reading, with the ambition to facilitate the discovery of new pieces at first sight, or failing that, at second sight.

Each lesson corresponds, in principle, to one week of work. For example, a session can be structured as follows: 5 to 10 minutes of long tones and straight tones, 10 to 15 minutes of scales, 10 to 15 minutes of technical exercises, then 5 to 10 minutes devoted to a piece. An ideal approach to establish solid practice habits, progress steadily, and "own" the instrument with confidence.
