Summary of This Score

This score offers a suite in four movements that tells the story of tango through successive atmospheres, each associated with a period and a place. It begins with "Bordel 1900," a tango of birth, full of grace and vivacity, evoking Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th century and the energy of music that is still popular, direct, and lively.

With "Café 1930," the mood changes: dancing is no longer as before; listening becomes more prominent. Tango becomes more romantic, slower, and is dressed in new harmonies where melancholy takes a central place. The music suggests the tango orchestra and its colors, like a sung memory, intimate and expressive.

"Night-club 1960" shifts the suite into an era of international exchanges and renewal: influences intersect, modernity settles in, and tango transforms. Rhythms, accents, and energy are reinvented, as in a club where one comes to listen seriously to a tango in full revolution.

Finally, "Concert of Today" opens the door to a tango oriented toward the future, nourished by concepts of new music and reminiscences of great 20th-century compositions. The arrangement for piano four hands highlights contrasts, textures, and dynamics of this journey, offering a rich repertoire for duo practice as well as for the stage.
