Summary of This Book
Intended for second cycle music theory students (3rd and 4th years), this book offers a comprehensive path organized into five complementary parts. The goal is not just to "complete exercises," but to build lasting musical skills: understanding what is heard, reading better, singing better, and connecting practice with active listening.
Part 1 focuses on work with pieces in 6 lessons. Exploring varied musical worlds, each lesson combines reading and technique while emphasizing the development of listening, harmonic ear, transcription, and analysis. To fully benefit from the progression, it is recommended to follow the proposed order.
Part 2 addresses ear training through musical dictations, viewed as a tool for evaluation and verbalizing (and notating) perception. The student learns to identify, memorize, and transcribe methodically to better understand how they hear and how to write it down.
Part 3 strengthens listening and musical reading: reading becomes a full musical act, serving a style, period, or language. Part 4 is dedicated to rhythmic work with comprehensive oral practice (technical reading, clapping, combinations, and vocalization). Finally, Part 5 offers singing work focused on sight-reading, through diverse repertoires, ideal for developing confidence, accuracy, and autonomy.
