Summary of This Method

Designed to support students at the end of the 1st cycle, this Music Theory method emphasizes a progression that is both solid and stimulating. The goal is to open the student to musical culture while consolidating the skills necessary for discovering and understanding any score: reading, rhythm, singing, listening, analysis, and theory. The selection of works, guided by the beauty of the excerpts and their stylistic diversity, avoids mere overview and instead promotes lasting appropriation of the pieces and memorization of the composers.

The book is organized into two main parts. The first, identified by white pages, offers 11 illustrated chapters: each corresponds to an in-depth study of a work excerpt, placed in its historical context. It includes essentials such as Georges Bizet's "Carmen," but also lesser-known pieces, as well as humorous works to maintain a playful dimension. A variety of ensembles is sought, the voice holds an important place, and the student's instrument is fully integrated into the work.

The second part groups colored pages, designed as a modular "à la carte" supplement for the teacher. The blue pages reinforce reading (clefs, horizontal/vertical reading, one or two voices). The yellow pages develop rhythmic reading (varied measures, dictations, polyrhythms). The pink pages work on singing (monophonic, polyphonic, canon) and musical ear (recognitions, dictations, themes), while integrating music history and applied theory. The green pages serve as a structured reminder of the theoretical concepts from the 1st cycle and their applications. Overall, throughout the chapters, the aim is beautiful ensemble music performances (voices and instruments), possible both in class and in student concerts.
