Summary of This Method
Presentation
These vocalises were designed to push the voice towards greater agility and freedom, while remaining firmly grounded in precise technique. The work addresses demanding fundamentals (intervals, range, chromaticism, speed) and more specific vocal gestures such as slanci/glissandi, quarter tones, and sustaining sound at very low intensity, culminating in a decrescendo ending on "un fil di voce".
The method also emphasizes rhythmic musicality: the singer learns to overlay the text onto a constant internal pulse, even when the melody becomes complex. The tenuti open a space for imagination and interpretation, with passages where the text can be freely placed, while breaths (sometimes ghostly, sometimes deliberate) become an expressive material in their own right.
Articulation is central to the approach: placement of the text "in the mouth," the role of the lips in acoustics, awareness of the palate and resonance areas, especially in the high and super-high registers. Sprechgesang holds an important place, alongside various vocal effects and actions (clusters, arpeggios, crying, laughing, breathy sounds, rauco, tongue clicks, glottal vibrato, etc.), with the learning of their signs and "cryptograms".
The texts rely on a repertoire of deliberately well-known and memorized classical operas by the singers: these arias become a technical playground where virtuosity, phonemes, and stylistic transformations take precedence over textual continuity. The whole is aimed at experienced singers, while triggering real awareness about the connection between voice, repertoire, ease of emission, and stage engagement.
