A LEWITT Stage Microphone Designed as a "Pro" Tool Within the MDP Range

The LEWITT MDP 840 DM follows a very stage-oriented approach: to deliver a vocal microphone capable of remaining stable against monitors, maintaining presence in the mix, and offering directly accessible controls without multiplying external accessories. While many dynamic microphones rely solely on their capsule, this model adds electronics designed to optimize overall performance, especially in active mode, to bring the sound and feel closer to "studio" standards while retaining the robustness expected in live environments.

Its format remains that of a classic handheld microphone, but its design clearly targets demanding conditions: noisy stages, quick stage changes, highly expressive singers, and sound engineers looking for a "ready-to-mix" microphone with minimal corrections.

For Which Singers and Stages Is the MDP 840 DM Made?

The MDP 840 DM is a dynamic vocal microphone intended for live singing, particularly relevant if you perform with high levels (close drums, amps, powerful monitors) and want to keep vocals clear without feedback. Its supercardioid directivity helps isolate the main source and limit bleed, which facilitates work in concerts, rehearsals, and on stages where acoustics are not ideal.

It is also suitable for singers who vary their distance from the microphone: the 3-position low-cut filter allows adjustment of bass impact related to the proximity effect, while the 3-position attenuation helps adapt the level according to the singing style, from nuanced interpretation to more powerful passages.

Settings and Design: A True Toolbox to Control Vocals Live

Active Mode: More Dynamic Range and Reduced Self-Noise

The MDP 840 DM offers an active mode operation designed to improve signal-to-noise ratio and extend the sense of dynamic range. Practically, this allows for a more detailed and stable vocal sound, with comfortable headroom when the singer moves from a soft verse to an energetic chorus. The gain selection in active mode (0 dB, 6 dB, 12 dB) provides quick adaptation to the desired output level, depending on your console, preamp, or simply your singing style.

3-Position Low-Cut Filter: Manage Proximity Effect and Clean Up the Low End

On stage, unwanted bass frequencies come quickly: proximity effect, vibrations, breath noise, impacts, foot noise, or accumulation of low mids in monitors. The MDP 840 DM's 3-position low-cut filter allows adjustment of the low-frequency response to find the right balance between warmth and clarity. This is a very useful setting to adapt the microphone to different voices (deep timbres, thin voices) and different techniques (very close or more distant mic placement).

3-Position Attenuation: Adapt the Microphone to the Singing Style

When vocal intensity changes, the preamp input level changes as well. The built-in 3-position attenuation offers a simple solution to avoid unnecessarily pushing console gain or, conversely, saturating during the loudest passages. This is particularly convenient in concerts when soundchecks are quick and the microphone must remain consistent from song to song.

Less Handling Noise, Fewer Plosives, More Control

The large capsule of the MDP 840 DM is mounted via an effective suspension mechanism designed to strongly reduce handling noise. Add to this an integrated windscreen that attenuates plosives, and you get a microphone that is more forgiving of typical live gestures and movements. The result: cleaner vocals on the front of house and monitors, with fewer emergency corrections needed.
