The flagship of the Catalyst CX series: more voicings, more control
The Catalyst CX 200 positions itself as the most powerful model in the Catalyst CX family. It retains the "guitar amp" approach (channels, direct controls, playing feel) while adding a layer of modern versatility thanks to voicings derived from the Helix ecosystem and effects based on HX technology. This CX version also marks a clear evolution compared to the previous Catalyst generation, with Firmware Catalyst 2.0 included, 6 additional voicings (12 in total), and the ability to activate 2 effects at the same time.
A 2x12 combo for stage, rehearsal, and home studio guitarists
With its 200 watts and 2x12 format, the Catalyst CX 200 is built to hold its own against a drummer in rehearsal and to perform across a wide variety of stages, while remaining relevant at home thanks to its power output options (convenient for adjusting volume without losing the essence of the tone). The two channels allow you to prepare, for example, a solid clean on one channel and a rhythmic or lead distortion on the other, to switch quickly between tones.
Style-wise, its palette naturally covers pop/rock, blues, indie, hard rock, and more modern high-gain approaches. And if you record, the 2-channel USB interface and XLR output facilitate integration into a home studio setup without multiplying external boxes.
Two channels, dedicated Boost, HX effects, and pro connectivity
The Catalyst CX 200 revolves around 12 amp voicings derived from Helix, each paired with a customized Boost type. Practically, you can sculpt a credible "amp" sound, then push it in the right place (attack, bite, thickness, sustain) via a Boost designed for that voicing rather than a simple generic "on/off".
The effects section features 24 high-quality HX effects covering four categories, and the CX generation allows using two simultaneously to build more complete sounds (for example modulation + delay, or delay + reverb), while maintaining quick control logic. The Tap/Tuner button speeds up live setup: tempo on the fly, tuning accessible without a dedicated pedal.
For integration, you have an effects loop (ideal for external delays and reverbs, or for a 4-cable setup with a multi-effects), a Power Amp input to use the Catalyst CX as a powered speaker (handy with a modeling pedalboard), an XLR line output to feed a front of house or recording system, and MIDI connectivity (including a MIDI input via DIN connector) to control channels, presets, and functions from a controller.
Advanced editing is done via the Catalyst Edit app (computer and mobile), designed to deepen settings and organize your usage. And if you want minimalist and efficient foot control, an optional LFS2 pedal is available to extend flexibility during play.
The sound
The Catalyst CX 200 is a modeling amp designed to preserve a guitar amp feel : a clear attack, dynamics that follow right-hand playing, and a coherent transition between clean, crunch, and distortion. The Helix-inspired voicings cover very usable bases in a band context (ample and defined clean, punchy crunch, denser drive, modern hi-gain), and the dedicated Boost per voicing helps retrieve the "right grain" without crushing dynamics.
In clean, it aims for a nice reserve of clarity, practical for open chords, arpeggios, and pedals. In crunch, the amp favors an articulated grain that responds well to guitar volume variations. In distortion, you get more pronounced compression and comfortable sustain for riff and lead, with definition adapted to lower tunings when the EQ is well set. Finally, the XLR output and USB allow consistent sounds on stage or direct input, very appreciated when you want a reliable setup from gig to gig.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Catalyst CX 200 powerful enough to play with a drummer?
Its 200 W and 2x12 configuration provide the required level for rehearsals with a drummer and many live settings. The power output options allow adjusting the volume for home use.
How many amp sounds and effects are available?
The 12 amp voicings derived from Helix cover clean, crunch, drive, and high-gain ranges. Each features a dedicated Boost. The HX section includes 24 effects and allows the simultaneous use of two effects.
Can recording be done directly via USB with this amp?
The 2-channel USB interface allows integration with a computer, iOS, or Android device. An XLR line output is also provided for front-of-house or direct recording.
What connectivity is provided for a footswitch and external effects?
An effects loop accommodates external delays and reverbs, as well as a four-cable setup with a multi-effects unit. The Power Amp input allows using the combo as a powered speaker with a modeling footswitch. MIDI, including a DIN input, enables channel, preset, and function control from a controller.
Can the Line 6 Catalyst CX 200 be controlled with the foot?
The optional LFS2 pedal expands foot control. The built-in Tap/Tuner button provides access to tempo adjustment and tuning.
