Powercab 212 Plus: The Missing Link Between Modeler and Amp Feel

The Powercab 212 Plus was designed to address a very concrete issue: how to enjoy the sounds of a professional modeler (preamps, amps, effects, scenes) without losing the impact and "presence" of a real speaker cabinet in the room. Here, the idea is not to replace your modeler but to provide it with an optimized guitar diffusion system, capable of being as neutral as an FRFR when you want, or more lively thanks to the built-in speaker modeling.

For Which Guitarists and Use Cases?

This active amplification system is primarily aimed at guitarists equipped with a modeler (or multi-effects with simulations) who want consistent sound in rehearsal, home studio, and on stage. In Flat (FRFR) mode, you get an accurate reproduction of your presets, ideal for working on finalized sounds with impulse responses. In Speaker Modeling mode, you gain a more organic feel, highly appreciated for pick playing, right-hand nuances, and anything that requires tactile response.

The integrated stereo is a real asset if you use ping-pong delays, wide reverbs, stereo chorus and tremolos, or dual-amp setups: the sound space remains intact without needing to multiply speakers. This is a relevant choice for styles ranging from modern clean and ambient to rock, blues, worship, pop, and more contemporary saturations, as long as your modeler provides the tone and the Powercab handles the projection.

Modes, Controls, and Key Features: FRFR, Speaker Modeling, and IR

The Powercab 212 Plus offers a particularly flexible approach: you can select a Flat (FRFR) mode for linear diffusion or switch to Speaker Modeling to access 12 proprietary speaker models. These models are not impulse responses: they are designed to recreate a more direct playing sensation, with a more "cabinet" response and a more natural interaction depending on your attack. You can also load third-party impulse responses (IR) and save them in your presets to align your setup with your studio habits or touring sounds.

The Stereo Width control allows you to widen the stereo field, useful when you want to emphasize the breadth of certain effects in the room without changing your patch. The whole system is controllable and storable: you have 128 user memories (presets) configurable in Flat, Speaker Modeling, or IR mode, with a 2-inch LCD screen for quick navigation during soundchecks or rehearsals.

Sound Character

The Powercab 212 Plus stands out by its "on-demand" character: in Flat (FRFR), the goal is transparency to let your modeler dictate EQ, dynamics, and cabinet signature (via IR). In this configuration, you get a precise rendering, useful for reproducing on stage a sound close to what you hear on headphones or in your audio interface.

In Speaker Modeling, the feel is closer to a guitar cabinet: the midrange sounds more "sculpted," the attack more tangible, and the projection more familiar to those coming from a traditional amp. The stereo enhances the clarity of delays and modulations and provides a very musical width to ambient sounds while maintaining convincing punch on crunches and distortions.
