Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
The Spider is one of Line 6's iconic series for amp modeling, designed to offer a maximum of sounds and effects in a simple format. The Spider V 20 MkII positions itself as a compact and affordable practice amp, with a "plug-and-play" approach (immediate presets) while leaving the door open for deeper editing via the app. This MkII version emphasizes revamped presets and a more natural feel thanks to the Classic Speaker mode.Who This Amp Is For
The Line 6 Spider V 20 MkII is aimed at beginner to intermediate guitarists, multi-instrumentalists, and anyone looking for a versatile amp to practice at home, in class, or during rehearsals at reasonable volume. It is particularly suitable for styles requiring multiple tonal colors without a pedalboard (pop, rock, blues, funk, punk, modern school metal), and remains relevant for specific needs thanks to acoustic guitar and bass presets.Features and New Additions
At the heart of the Spider V 20 MkII is clear navigation: you select a preset, then quickly shape your tone with easy-to-use tone and effects controls. Each preset offers up to three effects instantly activatable via front panel buttons, allowing you to switch from a dry sound to a dressed-up sound (modulation, delay, etc.) without complicated menus. The Reverb control adds depth, ideal for cleans, arpeggios, and leads. The Tap/Tuner button is used to precisely set time-based effects (delay time, modulation speed) and, when held, accesses the built-in tuner. The USB connectivity opens the amp to the Spider ecosystem: editing on computer or mobile via Spider V Remote, access to additional sounds via the Cloud, and easy recording of your playing. To start recording, the Steinberg Cubase LE software is included.
Sound
As a modeling amp, the Spider V 20 MkII aims for versatility: clear and defined cleans, punchy crunches, up to modern compressed saturations. The Classic Speaker Mode is particularly interesting if you seek a more direct and "organic" feel, with a response closer to a traditional combo. The dedicated acoustic (inspired by Variax acoustic technology) and bass presets add credibility for practicing or demoing without multiplying amps.Technical specifications
