Historical Context and Positioning in the Range
The Saturn series is part of the Mapex drum kits acclaimed for their balance between musicality, projection, and durability, with finishes and equipment levels designed for both stage and studio use. This "Evolution" version incorporates elements from the DESIGN LAB program to optimize playing comfort, tuning stability, and shell vibration freedom.
Who This Drum Kit Is For
This Mapex Saturn Evolution is clearly aimed at intermediate to advanced drummers seeking an expressive and reliable instrument capable of handling rehearsals as well as tours. Its character is particularly suited to styles where body and definition are desired: rock, pop, fusion, funk, metal (with tighter tuning), and studio recording, thanks to its roundness and projection.
Features and Innovations
The pack highlights ergonomic and performance improvements with the DESIGN LAB features, as well as the SONIClear suspension that facilitates tuning and stabilizes the fundamental pitch. The MAPEX "Halo" tom mount, mounted laterally beneath the tension rods line, limits contact points with the shell: as a result, the tom breathes more, with a sharper attack and a more "open" resonance.
Sound
The maple and walnut combination is renowned for offering a very musical compromise: maple provides a clear attack, balanced response, and great versatility, while walnut enhances the low mids and delivers a sense of depth and power. With a 22-inch bass drum configuration, you generally get a full low end and solid projection, ideal for maintaining a strong foundation without losing precision.
With Remo heads, the drum kit gains clarity and consistent response: the sound remains round but with enough definition for playing nuances, from ghost notes on the snare (not included) to accented hits on the toms.
