A Bass Inspired by an Essential Classic
The MB JB is part of the great tradition of "JB Style" basses, a format that has become essential thanks to its ergonomics, versatility and ability to fit into almost any musical setting. It incorporates the fundamentals that have made this silhouette so successful: a comfortably contoured body, a long scale length and a two-single-coil pickup configuration.
Available here with a high-gloss black finishing and chrome hardware, this four-string bass takes a direct and effective approach. Its passive electronics and intuitive controls let you focus on the essentials: touch, groove and balance in the mix.
An Accessible Bass for Learning, Progressing and Playing in a Band
The MB JB is particularly suited to beginner and intermediate bassists looking for an instrument that is easy to understand, enjoyable to play and versatile enough to support their progression. Its slim neck makes left-hand movement easier, while its 20 frets provide a range suited to most songs played during rehearsals, at home or on stage.
Its format is naturally well suited to funk, soul, rock, pop and contemporary music. It is equally comfortable handling regular fingerstyle accompaniment and more incisive pick-played lines. Slap players will also appreciate the lively response of the single-coil pickups and the clarity provided by the bridge pickup.
Two Single-Coil Pickups for Shaping a Clear, Dynamic Sound
The SS configuration with two single-coil pickups forms the sonic heart of the MB JB. Positioned near the neck, the first pickup delivers a round, warm response, with pronounced lows that give weight to the fundamental notes. It is perfectly suited to soul, pop or rock accompaniment requiring a generous, musical foundation.
The bridge pickup provides greater definition, more midrange and increased attack. It helps lines stand out in a dense arrangement, especially when the bass needs to remain clear alongside guitars, keyboards or an energetic drum kit. Used on its own, it encourages a more lively, precise and articulate register.
The two volume controls let you adjust each pickup independently to create your own balance. The tone control then refines the overall brightness: fully open, it lets the attack of the steel strings and the instrument's punchy character shine through ; rolled back, it softens the sound to produce a more muted color. This passive electronics section remains particularly responsive to playing nuances and variations in intensity.
The poplar body contributes to the instrument's overall balance. Combined with the 34" / 864 mm scale length, it provides a familiar playing feel for bassists accustomed to electric bass standards. The laurel key completes the instrument with a playing surface suited to quick movements, steady grooves and more expressive phrasing.
