A model inspired by the Rottenburgh tradition, revisited with modern innovations

The name "Rottenburgh" refers to the heritage of Baroque recorders, prized for their balance, clarity, and musicality. This bass recorder aligns with that spirit while integrating a performance-oriented redesign: optimized internal geometry, precise work on the windway, and improved bore. The result aims for a more stable, expressive, and comfortable instrument without sacrificing the expected sound aesthetic of Baroque fingering.

For whom and in which styles?

This bass recorder is primarily intended for intermediate to advanced musicians, players in recorder ensembles (consorts), as well as performers seeking a present low register and clear high register. The Baroque fingering naturally suits the Baroque and early music repertoire, but its improvements in air column stability and dynamic potential also make it an excellent choice for contemporary music, demanding educational projects, or arrangements (variety, stage music) where a bass capable of clear articulation and ensemble support is expected.

Sound and design

The body made of ebony / grenadilla contributes to solid projection and a dense timbre, with a strong foundation in the lower register. The improved bore is designed to offer a pure and balanced timbre across all registers while enhancing homogeneity between low and high. Regarding sound production, the design of the windway (curved conical channel, narrower entry, wider exit) aims for a stable air column : the attack gains precision, the range of dynamics expands, and the instrument more easily maintains clarity during extended playing (limiting "hoarseness" related to moisture). The double holes (F/F# and G/G#) facilitate fingering and improve intonation and agility on common accidentals.

Recommended compatible accessories

To preserve the acoustic qualities of the wood and response consistency, the use of a cork grease suitable for wooden instruments and a cleaning cloth after each session is advised. A dedicated recorder maintenance kit (non-aggressive products for wood) can also complement the equipment, continuing from what is provided.
