Essential Information About the Mollenhauer Denner Soprano Recorder

  • High-end model inspired by Jacob Denner: aesthetics and response designed in the spirit of Baroque instruments.

  • Pearwood body: a natural feel and warm sound, ideal for an expressive soprano.

  • Baroque fingering with double hole: facilitates tuning and precise fingerings, especially on sensitive notes.

  • Ready-to-play instrument: adjusted by a luthier for reliable handling from the very first notes.

A "Denner" Recorder: The Baroque Heritage According to Mollenhauer

The Denner series by Mollenhauer is inspired by historical recorders attributed to Jacob Denner (1681-1735), a renowned maker of the Baroque era. This soprano captures the spirit of these antique instruments by emphasizing clarity of articulation, bright projection, and careful tuning, while benefiting from modern craftsmanship with particularly meticulous finishing.

For Which Musicians and Styles?

This soprano recorder is aimed at intermediate to advanced musicians seeking an expressive and stable instrument, suitable for working on the Baroque repertoire (sonatas, ensemble music, continuo), as well as contemporary contexts where a precise and musical soprano recorder is desired. Its ergonomics and design also allow for more comfortable handling, including for larger hands, a real advantage on a soprano.

Sound and Design

Pearwood provides a balanced timbre color: a warm sound with a well-present Baroque brilliance, without harshness. The response remains reliable and the tuning is designed to maintain precision, even in the high register, where the soprano can quickly become demanding. The fully scooped holes (slightly chamfered and carefully worked) contribute to homogeneity and ease of sound production, while the oiled surface (vegetable oils) highlights the wood and improves tactile comfort. The ornamented rings complete an ensemble that is both understated and refined.

Recommended Compatible Accessories

This recorder comes with the essentials for maintenance and transport: a case, a swab, and joint grease. To prolong its lifespan and maintain consistent response, remember to use the swab after each session and keep the instrument in its case, protected from temperature variations.
