An Axis true to the spirit of 1996
The Music Man Axis 30th Anniversary pays tribute to the first Axis models with a limited collection featuring their iconic translucent colors. This Translucent Gold version highlights the figuring of the hand-tinted quilted maple top. The slightly glittery Black back subtly echoes the color of the top, while the cream binding accentuates the instrument's contours.
Built in the spirit of the original specifications, this electric guitar retains the features that define the Axis: an asymmetrical neck, straightforward electronics and a double-locking tremolo. The matching headstock and commemorative thirtieth-anniversary logo set this series apart, and it comes with a certificate of authenticity and a premium hard case.
A guitar for expressive riffs and precise solos
This Axis is particularly well suited to intermediate and advanced guitarists looking for a responsive instrument for rock, hard rock and high-gain styles. Its two humbuckers handle dense rhythm parts as well as singing solos. The 3-way pickup selector and single volume control let you focus on playing without an excess of adjustments.
The asymmetrical profile naturally follows the shape of the hand, while the sculpted neck joint facilitates access to the highest frets. The 10-inch / 254 mm radius offers a comfortable compromise between chords and bends. On a dark stage, the phosphorescent side dots help you find your positions. The tremolo, designed to lower pitch only, is suited to dive-bomb effects rather than upward movements.
Two custom DiMarzio pickups for a dense, articulate voice
The basswood body and quilted maple top form the foundation of this instrument, but the two custom-wound DiMarzio humbuckers remain at the heart of its electric character. Their HH configuration favors a full sound and strong presence under high gain, with less hum than a single-coil configuration. The bridge pickup lends itself to sharp attacks, while the neck pickup brings a rounder color to melodic phrases.
The 3-way pickup selector provides access to either pickup individually or both together. The 500-kohm volume pot lets you control the level sent to the amplifier and, depending on the amp's settings, shape the tone. Shielding in the cavities helps reduce interference. No tone control or coil-splitting option is specified: the approach remains deliberately simple and immediate.
The Music Man double-locking tremolo combines secure string retention with fine tuners for precise tuning adjustments after locking. The 22 stainless steel frets offer a wear-resistant surface, which is appreciated for bends and consistent playing. The oiled and waxed neck finishing preserves a feel of contact with the wood, distinct from the body's glossy finish.
Recommended compatible accessories
To retain the original string gauge, we recommend a set of RPS 9 Slinkys 2239 in 9-42, matching the strings fitted to this Axis. This choice avoids unnecessarily altering the tremolo balance when replacing the strings. As the premium hard case is included, no additional purchase is required to ensure suitable protection during transport.
