The MCM System: Neumann's Close-Miking in Miniature Format

The Miniature Clip Mic (MCM) was designed to meet the demands of musicians and sound engineers in live contexts: natural sound, quick setup, and impeccable mounting reliability. Within the range, the MCM stands out for its modular approach (capsule, mounting, wiring, and output stage) which facilitates maintenance and replacement of components while maintaining a consistent "Neumann-type" sound from set to set.

Intended Uses and Cellists

The Neumann MCM SET CELLO is aimed at cellists who want to capture the acoustic character of their instrument in concerts, recordings, and broadcasts without relying on a stand microphone. It is particularly suited for stages where placement stability, repeatability (consistent sound night after night), and excellent separation from other sources (orchestra, monitors, backline) are required, thanks to its cardioid directivity and controlled close-miking technique.

Design, Mounting, and Performance: What Makes the Difference

KK 14 Capsule: Tonal Balance and Consistency

At the heart of the set, the cardioid KK 14 capsule aims for a very neutral sound with enhanced body in the low and low-mid frequencies and clear transparency in the highs. Its multi-layer design (hand-assembled) and strict quality control ensure high tonal consistency between capsules, a tangible advantage when multiple microphones are used simultaneously: faster adjustments and lighter equalization.

With a self-noise of 23 dB-A and a maximum SPL of 153 dB SPL (for THD < 0.5%), the SET CELLO handles both delicate passages and powerful attacks while maintaining a comfortable safety margin on stage.

Cello Mounting: Discreet, Fast, Reliable

The set is designed for installing the MCM system on the strings of a cello behind the bridge to achieve a stable and close source capture. The SH 150 gooseneck allows precise positioning, while the MC 2 clip and cable management (with KC 1 clamp) secure the setup to minimize handling noise and maintain clean ergonomics on the instrument.

XLR Output and Integration: A Set Tailored for Professional Configurations

This pack includes the MCM 100 output stage and the AC 31 cable (1.8 m) for easy integration into a standard audio chain. The 48 V phantom power (P48) ensures direct compatibility with most consoles and microphone preamps. The MCM system is also available with interchangeable cable options for other environments (notably wireless), making the platform adaptable to your needs.

Finally, the WS 110 windscreen helps secure the capture in real conditions (breath, movement, air flow), and the supplied soft case facilitates transport and storage between performances.
