What EQuivocate Is For

EQuivocate is an equalizer plug-in designed for producers, mixers, and mastering engineers who want to sculpt a sound with a "natural" feel and immediate clarity. Its approach based on critical bands facilitates EQ decisions on delicate sources such as vocals, drums, synths, guitars, mix buses, or masters. Thanks to the Match EQ function, it also serves to bring the timbre of a track closer to a reference, homogenize two takes from different chains, or create tonal complementarity to better place an element in a dense mix.

Main Features

26-band auditory filters "Human Ear EQ"

At the heart of EQuivocate are 26 linear phase auditory filters whose shape is designed to approximate the filters of the ear's critical bands. The result: even marked settings remain easier to integrate musically, with behavior particularly suited to fine corrections and overall balancing. The bands are distributed along the Mel spectrum, an arrangement that corresponds more to perception than to a simple linear frequency scale.

Transparent Match EQ via sidechain

The Match EQ function allows you to compare your signal to a source sent to the sidechain (reference track, stem, instrument, full mix) to profile the tonal curve and apply it to your track. The goal is not to "over-model" imperceptible differences but to achieve a clean and natural match. This is especially useful for: bringing two recordings made under different conditions closer together, giving coherence to a set of tracks, or guiding a master towards the tonal balance of a reference track.

Fast and precise mixing tools

EQuivocate favors a direct workflow: you can draw a curve with a simple click-and-drag on the gain area, then disable drawing mode to fine-tune each band. Band solos help isolate a frequency range to identify resonance, harshness, or excess energy. Finally, automatic level compensation stabilizes the output volume to judge tonal changes without being misled by gain variations.

Customization and artist presets

To adapt to your methods, you can add or remove filters and customize their frequency distribution. EQuivocate also includes a selection of artist presets for a quick start, as well as a Compare mode allowing instant switching between two distinct settings, useful for validating an EQ choice in context.
