Summary of This Score

Three Piece Suite for alto saxophone and piano is a transcription established by the composer in 1996, based on three movements from his Four Piece Suite for two pianos (1974). Designed to highlight the sound and flexibility of the alto saxophone, this suite alternates energy, rhythmic elegance, and a more introspective character, offering a rich repertoire for both concert and study. The premiere of this version was performed on March 21, 1996 by John Harle, a major figure in saxophone, which underscores the musical interest and interpretative scope of the work. Lasting approximately 10 minutes, the piece is particularly well suited for stylistic work (articulation, phrasing, rhythmic precision) and ensemble preparation with pianist, thanks to a writing style that encourages dialogue between the two instruments. The edition includes the score and the separate part, for comfortable reading in rehearsal as well as performance, and fits naturally into ABRSM preparation.
