What NUGEN Monofilter Is For
Monofilter fixes and recenters low frequencies to avoid energy loss caused by phase issues and overly wide stereo effects. Ideal for modern production (electro, hip-hop, pop, rock, urban music) as well as post-production and broadcasting, it ensures reliable translation on any system: clubs, radio, streaming, vinyl, and front-of-house.
Main Features
Solid and Controlled Bass
Set a crossover frequency and shape the width envelope to retain width where it's useful while making the low end solid and precise. The high and low width controls range from full mono to the original stereo image, with immediate visual feedback.
Intelligent Phase Alignment
Phase control corrects imbalances below the chosen frequency by adjusting the summed L/R components in mono. The automatic mode tracks phase variations of modulated sources (chorus, flanger, unison synths), preventing cancellations and dips in mono listening.
Mixing, Mastering, and Vinyl Pressing
Switching between algorithms optimizes workflow: Zero Latency for recording and live performance, Linear Phase for transparent mixing, HQ mode for maximum definition in mastering. When mastering vinyl, reducing stereo separation in the bass avoids needle jumps and maximizes cutting level.
Touch Interface and Analysis
The stereo spectrum analyzer, correlation meter, and independent mono/stereo trims provide immediate insight into the low-frequency image. Envelope editing by "grabbing" allows quick, musical adjustments without getting lost in abstract parameters.

Questions frequently asked
Can Nugen Audio Monofilter put the bass in mono?
The low-frequency width controls allow switching from full mono to the original stereo image below the chosen crossover frequency.
How does Monofilter correct phase issues in the low end?
The phase control operates below the selected frequency on the left/right components summed to mono. The automatic mode tracks modulated source variations, such as chorus, flanger, or unison synths. This helps limit cancellations and nulls when listening in mono.
Which mode should be used for latency-free mixing?
The Zero Latency mode is designed for tracking and live performance. Linear Phase is intended for transparent mixing, while the HQ mode aims for maximum definition in mastering.
Is this plug-in suitable for vinyl mastering?
During vinyl mastering, reducing the stereo spread in the low frequencies helps avoid needle jumps and maximizes cutting level.
Is Monofilter compatible with Mac and Windows?
The specified configuration requires OS X 10.9 with 1 GB of RAM on Mac, or Windows 7 with 1 GB of RAM on Windows. The software is available as a download.
