From the X3 to the HK Version: OBNE's Flagship Utility Reinvented
Succeeding the Expression Ramper X3 launched in 2024, the Expression Ramper HK takes the "parameter mover" concept even further. It features graphics by Holey Kids and integrates into the recent OBNE utility series, while adding a dedicated tap tempo that outperforms manual Rate adjustment. The core remains the same: memorizing two expression positions and defining how the pedal moves between them.
For Which Musicians and Uses?
Guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, and sound designers will find an immediate way to breathe life into their effects. Both live and in the studio, the Expression Ramper HK transforms a pitch-shifter into an expressive glissando, a phaser into a stepped filter, or a delay into a controlled feedback rise machine. Compact and simple, it fits anywhere on a pedalboard, alone or in multiples.
Controls, Modes, and Connectivity
Set your A and B points, then choose the trajectory: Triangle for a linear sweep, Square for instant jumps, or 1 Shot for a one-way sweep triggered by foot. Holding TAP while changing the shape grants access to Smooth Random, Sharp Random, and 1 Shot Random variants. Speed is adjusted via the Rate potentiometer or Tap, while the main footswitch starts/stops the LFO or triggers the 1 Shot. The EXP output on a 6.35 mm jack can be configured as TRS, reversed polarity TRS, or TS, all controlled by a 50 k digital potentiometer compatible with most expression inputs. Internal jumpers allow polarity and emulation behavior adjustments.
Sound Character
The Expression Ramper HK does not process the audio signal: it sculpts the movement. As a result, your tone remains intact while targeted parameters come alive. Smooth sweeps, mechanical sequencer-like steps, organic random drifts... the performance becomes more expressive, synchronized to the foot-tapped tempo, and perfectly reproducible.

Questions frequently asked
Is the Expression Ramper HK compatible with a TS or TRS expression input?
The EXP output on the 6.35 mm jack can be configured as TRS, reverse polarity TRS, or TS. A 50 k digital potentiometer provides the expression emulation. Internal jumpers allow adapting polarity and emulation behavior.
How to use the tap tempo on the Expression Ramper HK?
The TAP footswitch controls the movement speed between positions A and B, replacing the manual Rate adjustment when needed. The main footswitch starts or stops the LFO and triggers the movement in 1 Shot mode.
What movement modes are available?
Triangle, Square, and 1 Shot waveforms are available, with Smooth Random, Sharp Random, and 1 Shot Random variants accessible by holding TAP during waveform selection.
Does the Expression Ramper HK affect the audio signal?
No audio signal is processed: the pedal only controls an expression parameter linked to its 6.35 mm EXP output. It can thus animate, for example, pitch, phaser, or feedback of a compatible delay.
What power supply is required for the Expression Ramper HK?
This pedal operates on mains power and has an approximate consumption of 50 mA.
